He Whakaoreore Roro Movin'Minds
Year 4-8 students create a mini-movie or slideshow to persuade their peers about the benefits of active travel for themselves, their neighbourhood and the planet.
Before You Begin
These resources were created for the 2021 Movin'March campaign. You may find them useful as part of a wider piece of learning.
How to Move Minds
Movin'Minds is about making a persuasive case for your action. How do you present this to the decisionmakers or your peers? We've designed resources to guide ākonga to make presentations or videos that are structured, clear and persuasive.
Set up
Either as an individual or a group of up to 4, create a short slideshow presentation OR a mini-movie to explore how to persuade others.
Topics could include:
- motivating younger students or your peers on the benefits of walking or wheeling to school,
- convincing your school community on why they should support active trips to school,
- why walking or wheeling is important for the Planet
- or, why your school leadership should support an action you've selected, such as building a ReCycle Rack or setting up a Walking School Bus.
You could present your slideshow or mini-movie to friends for feedback before making a final presentation to a class or assembly.
Before you start, you’ll need to:
- Be a year 4-8 student
- Talk to your teacher or whānau about what equipment you need or may use, including props.
- Work as an individual or in a group (maximum 4 students)
- Decide who will judge the finished masterpieces and what the prizes will be.
You can work through the Climate theme, and use the "expert talk" as an example. What works well in this presentation? What could be better? Did it use the structure below? Was it persuasive? Can you do better (and if so, please share with us!)?
