Kaitiakitanga (Guardianship and protection) Kaitiakitanga
Students learn how to explore te ao Māori concepts such as mauri, kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga. They discover how they can make a difference by working collectively.
In our Kaitiakitanga (Guardianship and protection) theme you'll find how students can build an understanding of mauri, kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga and raraunga (citizenship). Through fun and interactive games, students get to explore how working together can bring a bigger impact than you'd expect.
Explore what makes our neighbourhood a good place to be and use narrative to understand ngā atua (Māori gods). Reflect on how this connects to the present-day pressures on our environment and how we can all make a difference.
There are 3 lessons and an overview in the Kaitiakitanga series. They can either be used as one-off activities or in sequence.
