A short guide with information on every part of taking the bus.

How to Catch a Metlink Bus was written to support new bus users. The guide covers everything from how to pay, planning a trip, taking a trip, and accessibility on Metlink buses. Written with accessibility in mind; the guide uses plain English and short sentences to convey important information as accurately as possible.

Page 6 has information on types of Snapper cards, showing three cards (red, Total Mobility, green) and a map with some locations where you can top up your card.  Page 7 shows how to top up your Snapper card, with contact details for Snapper. The sidebar shows ways to top up your card, such as shops, the Snapper app and kiosks.  Page 8 has an artistic photo of a double decker bus waiting at a bus stop. Passengers are about to get on. It is sunset and there is a glimpse of the waterfront behind the bus stop.  Page 9 has information about 'planning a bus trip' and 'ways to plan a trip'. It has a sidebar with screenshots of the journey planner app.

Social Story Template: Metlink Social Story Template – taking the bus

The Metlink social story template includes a customisable step-by-step story about catching the bus with an accompanying image library to help you make the story your own.

Catching the bus takes many small steps in a particular order; it can take time and practice to get the hang of it. Metlink’s social story template guides users from beginning to end of their bus journey; helping to put the steps in context and making them more meaningful to the reader. The template is a PowerPoint file (Google slides compatible) anyone is free to download and use.
