Tirohanga Vision

Create, update and curate high quality educational tools (learning resources) for teachers. Deliver these in a way that is easy to access, motivating to engage with and enables use in class.

The origins of Kura Kete

Since the early 2000’s, Greater Wellington has explored ways to support tamariki (children) to travel to school in safe and sustainable ways. From our highly acclaimed Pedal Ready cycle skills programme to the immensely popular Movin’March, we deliver initiatives that engage schools and students across our rohe.

Feedback from teachers told us that schools wanted active travel in their classrooms year-round, to build on the enthusiasm generated by Movin’March and Pedal Ready. This inspired us to create the Kura Kete website.

We have selected the best resources from the Active Travel Actionopen_in_new kit (originally created by Greater Wellington and Enviroschools – Te Upoko o te Ika a Maui). These have been curated around the needs of teachers and linked to the New Zealand curriculum and achievement objectives. We will be creating new resources regularly and will continue to work with teachers to add functionality and value to the site.

We think we’ve found the sweet spot – a delightful toolkit full of useful resources – one we hope you will treasure!
